A city with rich history, it has also seen urban development aplenty. Vishakhapatnam is the only natural harbor on the eastern coast of India and is home to the oldest shipyard in the country. Thanks to its coastal location bounded by hills, there are several amazing places to visit in Visakhapatnam.

1. Submarine Museum
Being a port town housing a shipyard, the first thing that comes to your mind about Vizag will be obviously, ships. And when there is a museum inside a submarine, would you miss that? This amazing museum is located near the picturesque Ramakrishna Beach. INS Kursura, one of the earliest submarines of India, played a pivotal role in Indo-Pak war of 1971. After being decommissioned, the submarine was converted into a museum. This is the only one of its kind in Asia and so a trip to this museum is best among things to do in Vizag.
2. Borra Caves
Though located a bit away from the city, Borra Caves are the most sought after among Visakhapatnam attractions. This marvel of nature is set at a height of 705 m, in Ananthagiri Hills. Borra Caves is one of the largest caves in India and is known for its spectacular stalactites and stalagmites. Once inside the cave, you are spellbound by its enormity and rock formations. The climb up and down the narrow stairs can be trying for those with creaking knees. This is a hill top destination overlooking Vishakhapatnam city and coast and is the best place for catching panoramic views of the beaches and the greenery all around. There is a ropeway to the top. On top of the hill, there are quite a few tourist attractions like toy trains, adventure games and even paragliding. The view from top is so magical, the shutterbug in you will instantly come alive! There are statues of Shiva and Parvathi on the hilltop, adding a spiritual touch to the beauty. One of the best places to visit in Vizag, not to be missed.
4. Araku Valley
Taking a tour to Araku Valley is one of the best things to do in Vizag. Two hours ride from Vizag will take you to this delightful destination. The place is all about simple charms of nature. A train journey from Vishakhapatnam to Araku Valley passing through pristine landscape will totally bowl you over. Araku Valley is famous for its coffee plantations, so you can enjoy a hot cup in the cool place. There are some tribal settlements also, who are miles away from ties of urban life. With its pleasant climate, Araku Valley is one of the best Vishakhapatnam attractions.
5. Dolphin’s Nose
This is a major tourist attraction and one among the most amazing places to visit in Visakhapatnam. Dolphin’s Nose is a hill protruding into the sea, which is named so because of its unique shape, like nose of a dolphin. There is a lighthouse on top of the hill to guide passing ships. British rulers had established a military base on top of the hills. The place truly justifies its name, when seen from far, it looks as though a giant dolphin is wading into the ocean!
6. Rishikonda Beach
Visit to a coastal city has to be accompanied by a beach sojourn. For this, no better place than Rishikonda. Soft sands and calm waves of this beach invite tourists to plunge into its waters. How magnificent Bay of Bengal looks from this beach! Rishikonda is one of the best places to visit in Vizag for a date with ocean. Adventurous lot can try out swimming or surfing. 7. Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary
This wildlife sanctuary is the pride of Eastern Ghats and is one among the most amazing places to visit in Visakhapatnam. It was named after Kambalakonda Hills. The area is comprised of dry evergreen forests with shrubs in between. Indian leopard is the most common animal of the forests. Apart from this, a wide assortment of wild creatures like jackal, pangolin and mongoose can also be spotted. It is being developed as an eco-tourism destination.
